The Knot-ical Bridge connects Halifax's South End with Armdale, saving residents commute time, expanding the city's green network and reaffirming public waterfront access. The bridge draws inspiration from Halifax's sailing traditions, featuring a design reminiscent of billowing boat sails. Three masts supporting different areas of the bridge are strategically arranged to create various experiences and viewpoints. For example, an observation deck and seating allow for various activities and groups of people to meet and enjoy the Northwest Arm. In addition, a ramp from the lower elevation of Sir Sandford Fleming Park provides quick access to the main bridge and also offers a journey that connects users with the historic site, different views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean. Designed to celebrate architecturally exposed structural steel, great emphasis was placed on details and connections. Ultimately, this innovative structure not only serves as a necessary connection between points in Halifax but also enriches the public realm, encouraging walking and cycling and inviting people to enjoy the city's scenery and heritage from a new perspective.
